Middle-man Ashley Westwood may not have much more of a future at Aston Villa football club. His play is average, he can get exposed at key moments of play and his set-pieces are naff.
However, it’s not down to Villa’s new manager - Roberto Di Matteo - to have the say on the midfielder’s future, it’s down to a recently promoted Burnley side who are currently eyeing up the hard-working midfielder to help them stay up in an increasingly competitive Premier League.
The Birmingham Mail are reporting that Sean Dyche’s team are set to bid £6 million for Westwood, who has over four years left on a £40,000 p/w deal at Villa Park. It’s a tempting deal, but Villa are certainly within their rights to refuse any offer for someone who could play a key part in the revival taking place at B6.
Westwood’s departure will certainly receive a mixed reception, but I’d rather keep someone who has the right mentality to help Villa rise from the ashes, then bring in someone who perhaps doesn’t
