Villa Ladies provide first look at new home kit in action

Just a day after the official unveiling, we got a glimpse at the new Villa home kit on the pitch, as Villa Ladies hosted Manchester City in the WSL Cup.

It’s one thing to see images of the new Aston Villa kit on mannequins or in promotional shots, but it’s another one to see it in action.

And thanks to the Villa Ladies, we got that opportunity yesterday!

All things considered, I think the home kit looks pretty good in action. It’s pretty pedestrian all things considered, but when the simple claret and blue can stand on its own without much help, that ain’t a bad thing. The one thing that sticks out to me as being a little disappointing are the plain blue socks, though I admittedly loved the hooped socks we got with Macron.

But while our squad looked good on the pitch, they didn’t have their best day, losing 8-0 to Manchester City in the WSL Cup. That’s fine, though! City and Chelsea are fighting for the title in the top flight, while Villa are a mid-table side in the second division, six points out of a promotion spot at the midway point.

Speaking of the league, fifth-placed Villa Ladies are back in action away to Durham, who sit fourth, next weekend. If Villa are going to make a push for the top two and a promotion spot, three points would be pretty vital – and we might get our first look at the away kit, too.

Villa Ladies will return home — they play at Sutton Coldfield Town — on the 17th, hosting Millwall.
