Aston Villa’s American Goalkeeper has today left the club to join up with Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough.

This follows news of a medical at the Teeside club. Aston Villa announced the following on their official site:

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan has joined Middlesbrough.

The USA international has signed at the Riverside on a two-year deal.

Guzan, who joined from Chivas USA in August 2008, made 171 appearances for us in all competitions.

Best wishes to Brad in his future football career.

Pretty brief for a guy who made nearly 200 games for Villa, no? Brad can be described as nothing other than a servant of the club, having feature for Aston Villa for almost ten years, both on the bench and on the field.

There’s no mention of a transfer fee across the internet, so this move is assumed to be on a ‘free’ deal.

There have been some terrible moments, but let’s not revise history. Brad Guzan did well for Villa, but will likely be remembered for the terrible couple of seasons of form, rather than his early heroics.
