Carles Gil might be done with Aston Villa

The Spanish midfielder has returned to his country of birth on a year-long loan deal

Well, it looks like Carles Gil won't be a Villa player anymore.

The slight Spaniard has been shipped out to Deportivo de La Coruña on a year-long deal with the potential for the loan to become a permanent transfer.

Gil was a cult figure among Villa fans who seemed to think Carles was a better player than he actually was. Gil will be remembered best for his goals against Bournemouth and Sunderland, in which the clash with the latter saw him produce a scissor kick that would shade Christian Benteke green with envy.

Many might argue that Gil isn't suited to the physical pressing of English Football and whilst that is true, it's worth remembering that one of Carles' best performances was against a Tony Pulis West Bromwich Albion who targeted him for a kicking the entire game. The resolute Gil stood tall and created many chances at The Hawthorns but Villa couldn't put them away.

The chances of Gil returning to Aston Villa are slight as the deal lies in the hands of Deportivo, but no matter what - Carles always did his best and I think we will all remember him quite fondly.
