According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are interested in acquiring Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle. The 25 year old Englishman is reportedly interested in finding more playing time after falling out of favor last year at Palace. Gayle scored only 3 times in 17 Premier League appearances last year, but is still regarded as a clinical forward. His movement is often shrewd and he is deceptively quick - Villa lacks a player with the body type and/or playing style as Gayle. Jordan Ayew's skill set is somewhat resemblant, but it remains probable that Ayew will attract a new club this summer, leaving a distinct void to fill in the squad.

There is no reported fee currently available, but Palace seem to be more interested in retaining their alternate attacking options, leaving the door open for Gayle to depart. Gayle last played in the Championship in the 2012/13 season, scoring 13 times in 29 games for Peterborough United. Villa were linked yesterday to Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford - both he and Gayle are now significantly experienced in English football, still showing promise and possessing a track record for goal-scoring success in the Championship. Despite their apparent similarities, Gayle would almost undoubtably come with a much cheaper price tag than the reported £10 million necessary to acquire Bamford.

Do you think Gayle would be a useful addition to Villa's squad? Who would be a better addition, Gayle or Bamford? Let us know!
