Life in the Championship may have its perks for Aston Villa supporters when it comes to TV coverage, as the club’s first two competitive matches of the new season will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
We already knew that about the league opener against Sheffield Wednesday, but now we know Villa’s League Cup (or EFL Cup now, I guess) opener away to Luton Town will also see the cameras for live coverage.

The tie, set to take place Wednesday 10 August, will be one of the highest-profile of the opening round, with the round’s biggest club taking on a League Two side that should be fighting for promotion in the upcoming campaign. It’ll be Villa’s first trip to Kenilworth Road — a lovely-looking, unique ground — in three seasons; if you’ll recall, the Claret and Blues played a preseason match away to Luton three years ago.
It does, however, look like Villa’s first home match of the second-tier excursion will not be moved for coverage, paving the way for a 3 pm kickoff against Rotherham United on Saturday 13 August.
