John Carver has applied to be Villa's manager barely a year after wishing relegation upon them

You may remember that in February of 2015 that then-Newcastle United boss John Carver said that he would be happy to see Aston Villa get relegated. Well, they didn't and Carver got the sack at Newcastle because he was absolutely rubbish at his job.

More than a year later, Carver's wish seems to be coming true, though. Aston Villa are probably going to be relegated, and we now might have some idea of why he was so excited for the possibility in the first place:

You see, Carver was playing the long con. He understands that managing Aston Villa is FAR better than managing Newcastle United. He also knows that he's a pretty terrible manager. So he put two and two together and realized that the only way he'd get the Aston Villa job he coveted was if the team sank to the Championship and were thus willing to lower their standards.

Now part one is done and he's sprung part two of his plan into action.

That's the only reason I can think of for this abrupt about-face. That or he's possibly just a giant toady. I'd believe either.
