Since Steve Bruce took over at Aston Villa, he’s been in charge of six matches. Four of those came against squads in the top half of the Championship table, and he’s still managed three wins and three draws. In his two matches against lower-half teams, he got a draw in his debut against Wolves, and a 2-1 win against Blackburn.
So with the team seemingly starting to click and get things together, this match, against 21st-place Cardiff City, seems like a good chance to put on a show. At home, in front of a rejuvenated Holte End, and with a bit of form. Goals should be in abundance and the ground should be partying.
Which, if I’ve learned anything in the past five years of watching Villa, means this could be a slog. But Steve Bruce is making me re-think my firmly entrenched cynicism. There’s a bit of hope here. And besides, we can’t actually watch, so we’ll probably miss five wunder-goals.
It’ll be worth it. Here’s how you can follow along!
