Aston Villa have today announced that they have hired Brighton’s Colin Calderwood as the Assistant Manager to Steve Bruce.

There was a slight to-do over Villa’s approach, as they played Brighton last Friday, the day that Steve Round and Bruce decided to approach Calderwood. In the end, Brighton were powerless to stop the lure of Aston Villa and Villa got their man in the end.

Steve Bruce spoke to Villa’s official site about the hiring:

“I’m delighted to bring Colin to the football club. We’ve got an experienced guy and a good football man. It was important for me to get someone of his nous. When I heard Colin was interested he shot to the top of the pile. We interviewed two or three people. But once I knew Colin was available there was only one person I wanted here.”

Colin will be a welcome appointment and I’m sure Villa fans will be happy with this move!
