Philippe Senderos leaves Villa

Big Phil Senderos is sadly, no longer a Villan

Philippe Senderos is no longer a Villan, as of today.

Villa's injury prone Swiss centre half has had his contract mutually terminated, according to Aston Villa's official website.

Senderos signed for Villa in the summer of 2014, arriving on a free transfer from Valencia. He was injury prone before he arrived, and managed just seven appearances in 2014, and we haven't seen him since.

This season, he was left out of Villa's 25 man Premier League squad, so the writing was always on the wall for him as a Villa player. Even though he was never likely to feature for Villa anymore, I'm still a little sad to see him go. His Villa high point was probably his debut last season against Stoke. Alongside Ron Vlaar, he was a rock at the heart of the defence in a game in which Villa won 1-0, giving them three points that was ultimately the difference between safety and relegation.

A move back to his native Switzerland may be on the cards, and you never know, he could potentially play his way into Switzerland's Euro 2016 squad. Villa reduce the wage bill and Senderos gets a new start elsewhere. Win win I guess.
