The following is based on radio commentary, so be aware of the fact that it is, of necessity, a limited recap. In the first half Aston Villa managed to do nothing while Wycombe did just a bit more. At one point, the Wanderers missed going up by one only because they mis-hit the ball despite what the TalkSport announcers called "suicidal goalkeeping" from Brad Guzan. Nevertheless things went into the half tied at 0-0.

The second half started with Wycombe continuing to, somehow, sound like the stronger side. But eventually, in the 75th minute, Aston Villa broke through with a strong header from Ciaran Clark giving the home side the 1-0 advantage. It was a special goal for Clark as it came in his 150th Aston Villa appearance.

And then Gana scored in the 90th minute and Villa sealed the match. "They haven't been brilliant tonight but they HAVE gotten the job done" said the TalkSport announcer, and he was absolutely right. Now Villa get onto the fourth round of the Cup, where they'll have the pleasure of hosting Manchester City on the weekend of January 29-February 1.
