Tim Sherwood has today revealed that both Idrissa Gana and Adama Traore have returned to training following injury, and both may feature in Saturday's game against Liverpool.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Tim Sherwood said:
"Adama is looking to do a little bit today. We're going to see how he is.
"He's been running but will be working with the balls today.
"Idrissa trained on Thursday and we're going to see what he's like today."
In addition to this news, Sherwood revealed that Gabby Agbonlahor may yet be fit for selection, despite picking up a knock in the first half against Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
With the impending return of both Gabby and Adama, Aston Villa find themselves in the position of having their full attacking arsenal available to them for the first time this season, which will surely be a boost for the club. Injuries to the likes of the aforementioned duo, Idrissa Gana, Jack Grealish and Carles Gil have contributed to what has been a frustratingly slow start for Villa.
As for the other injured players, Gary Gardner is set to return to training on Monday after picking up an injury in the pre-season clash against Swindon Town, whilst centre back Jores Okore faces more time on the sidelines.
Whilst the injury news looks positive for Villa, the same can't be said for Saturday's opposition, Liverpool. We already mentioned that they will be without former Villa man Christian Benteke for the tie, but today's diagnosis provided further bad news for the Reds. Both Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren picked up knocks in the Capital One Cup tie with Carlisle United and are ruled out of Saturday's game, joining captain Jordan Henderson on the sidelines.
