We're almost down to sixteen teams in the Capital One Cup or League Cup depending on whether or not you approve of corporate sponsorship in a second-tier cup with a relatively short history. But the good news is that Aston Villa are one of those sixteen teams! After a 1-0 win against Birmingham City in the Second City derby yesterday (more notable for being a win against City than for advancing Villa in the Cup), Villa can expect to face off against a Premier League team in the fourth round.
Is it possible to draw a non-top flight team? Sure, but that would require a fair amount of luck given that eight of the fifteen other clubs are guaranteed to be Premier League, and that number will likely be higher. So the competition looks set to be more stiff, which should come as no surprise.
