Aston Villa see deal for striker fall through due to wage demands

Dimitar Berbatov was indeed at Bodymoor Heath talking with Aston Villa today, but apparently his wage demands were too much for the club.

Well, scratch those Dimitar Berbatov rumours. Apparently the Bulgarian striker was indeed at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground today, but a deal never materialized. The cause? Exactly what you would expect:

Well so much for that possibility. Also fun to see Adebayor is out of the picture too (we'll get to that in another post in just a minute).

Berbatov is likely past his prime, but given Villa's trouble scoring goals he still would have helped. He had 13 in one and a half seasons with Monaco to bring his career club total to 275 goals in 630 appearances. But if the wages were too high this is probably a smart decision from Villa. Bringing in aging players on high wages usually has a way of coming back to bite you.
