Well, scratch those Dimitar Berbatov rumours. Apparently the Bulgarian striker was indeed at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground today, but a deal never materialized. The cause? Exactly what you would expect:
Villa held Berbatov talks today but wages too high. They had deal for Adebayor late July but he rejected & #AVFC not pursuing #DeadlineDay

Well so much for that possibility. Also fun to see Adebayor is out of the picture too (we'll get to that in another post in just a minute).
Berbatov is likely past his prime, but given Villa's trouble scoring goals he still would have helped. He had 13 in one and a half seasons with Monaco to bring his career club total to 275 goals in 630 appearances. But if the wages were too high this is probably a smart decision from Villa. Bringing in aging players on high wages usually has a way of coming back to bite you.
