In a signing that has come out of the blue, Villa have signed young Montenegrin goalkeeper Matija Sarkic from Belgian Pro League side Anderlecht.
Aston Villa confirmed the deal earlier today, bringing the 18 year old from Montenegro to the West Midlands on a three year deal, for an undisclosed fee.
At the start of the summer, Villa were rumoured to be in the market for a Brad Guzan replacement. Make no mistake, Matija Sarkic isn't that. At least not yet. Sarkic becomes the 6th senior keeper at the club, and his arrival allows for Jed Steer or possibly Brad Watkins to depart on loan. With Benjamin Siegrist out with a broken leg, Sarkic could a useful addition to the Villa U21 side. At 18 years old, Sarkic could be a future first team player for sure.
All summer, we've been linked with a move for a certain Anderlecht player. And while Sarkic isn't quite Dennis Praet, it's an interesting move for sure. Sarkic won't need registering for the Premier League due to his age, but it is unlikely that we will see him feature with Brad Guzan and Mark Bunn ahead of him at least.
One signing down, hopefully another couple to go. Stick around for more deadline day news and gossip, here at 7500 to Holte!
