West Bromwich Albion look set to sign Manchester United's Jonny Evans, which opens up the door for Joleon Lescott's transfer to Aston Villa to take place.

According to a number of sources including the BBC, Jonny Evans is set for a £6-8 Million switch from Manchester United to West Brom. Evans' arrival at the Hawthorns allows for veteran centre back Joleon Lescott to leave, with Aston Villa looking to be his destination.

If the reports are to believed, and they look to be sound, then Evans is in Birmingham tonight for his medical at the Albion, which means that Lescott's switch across the city will happen early next week. Despite a solid-ish start to the season, Villa's defence doesn't have much depth, so the signing of 33 year old Lescott would be a good move in terms of both depth and experience.

For Villa fans, this move may feel like it has been a long time coming. Before signing with West Brom last summer, Lescott was linked with a move to Villa whilst he was frozen out at Manchester City. This never materialised but there were rumours linking him with a £1 Million switch to Villa as recently as last month.

Lescott is a local lad in Birmingham, and his experience in a relatively young squad could be of huge use to the club. The reported fee is £2 Million, which, for a player who has around 250 Premier League appearances isn't bad at all.
