It's five days into the season so that can only mean one thing: it's time to start thinking about cup competitions! Aston Villa will join the League Cup in the second round later this month, and the draw for that happens on Thursday, August 13. The event will occur after the conclusion of the Doncaster vs. Leeds match. Barring extra time and penalties, that should be sometime around 9:50 PM BST.
Villa, you may remember, lost to Leyton Orient in the second round last year after a dismal performance at Villa Park. Luckily, that can't happen this year with MK Dons ousting Leyton 2-1 yesterday.
In the draw, Villa cannot possibly come against another Premier League team, as the twelve such clubs entering the competition in the second round (those not participating in European competition) will be seeded, along with the twelve top winners from Round 1. That means that there is no chance that Villa could go for their third straight win over West Bromwich Albion this month, but will instead have to wait until September. It will also preclude the possibility of matches against Birmingham City and Wolves.
Second round matches are set to be played in the week of August 24th.
