Sherwood ends speculation on Villa goalkeeper

Tim Sherwood has made it clear that Brad Guzan is his number-one keeper headed into the season.

Earlier today, Herbert wrote an article wondering what Aston Villa's goalkeeper situation would be this season. Rumours had been swirling that Brad Guzan was available and with Jed Steer and Mark Bunn in the team, there was a chance that the USMNT keeper would be on his way out of Villa Park. But there wasn't much of a chance. And now we can put the thought to bed, as Sherwood has come out and said that Guzan is his first-choice keeper to begin the season.

Behind him will be Steer with the newly-siigned Bunn as the third-choice. Should Steer get a year on loan (a possibility that Sherwood is still considering), Bunn would bump up and likely become the cup-keeper for Villa.

But thus ends any speculation about Guzan's position with Villa. His strong performances for the USMNT in the Gold Cup have probably been what cemented Sherwood's mind. And it's probably the best decision. No reason to create a position of need if you don't have to, and Guzan is still a very good keeper.
