Phew. Villa fans, breathe a massive sigh of relief.
Your captain, your player of the year from last season, and the player around whom you can build a team, is staying put.
While yesterday's headlines pinned Delph as starting the season in the blue of Manchester City, Aston Villa's official website this morning released a statement from Delph, in which he once again commits his future to Aston Villa.
Delph's statement reads: "I'm aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight. I'm not leaving. I'm staying at the football club and can't wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club."
Delph's decision is a great step forward for Villa - keeping an international quality midfielder from a Champions League team is a massive statement to begin with, and the fact that Delph wants to stay with Villa and be the face for Tim Sherwood's redefined Villa is nothing but good news.
In addition to Delph's decision, yesterday the club announced the signing of Idrissa Gueye, meaning that all of a sudden, Villa have a formidable midfield duo to hold the team together.
What do you think this means for the football club, and do you think that this is the best news of the transfer season, purchase or sale? Let us know!
