Aston Villa are set to face Arsenal at Wembley in the FA Cup final for one of the world's greatest football trophies. The road to the final for both teams has had plenty of possible pitfalls and, thus far, neither have succumbed. That must end today, as there are no draws or replays allowed in the FA Cup.

Both teams entered the tournament in the third round. Arsenal got to kick things off with a 2-0 win against fellow Premier League side Hull City at the Emirates. They then traveled to face Brighton and Hove Albion, who they beat 2-3 before returning home to face Middlesbrough, who they beat 2-0. After two consecutive Championship teams, they faced their toughest challenge in the quarterfinal when they traveled to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United 1-2. In the semis, at Wembley, they were able to dispatch Reading 1-2 in extra time.

Aston Villa had the fortune of playing all of their matches at home until the Wembley semifinal. They began with a 1-0 victory over Blackpool and followed it with a 2-1 over Bournemouth. Then, days after Paul Lambert was fired new manager Tim Sherwood watched his side from the stands as they beat Leicester City 2-1. Sherwood got his second victory in charge of Villa a short while later with the jubilant 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the quarterfinals. Finally, facing a tough Liverpool side, Villa were dominant in their return to Wembley and won 2-1.
