Aston Villa are set to travel to Portugal in July as the main feature in their preseason training schedule. The club have announced today that they will be in residence at Estadio Da Nora in Albufeira from July 9-18. While there, they will have two training sessions open to the public on July 11 and July 17, as well as two training friendlies on those same days. The first (on the 11th) will be against Fulham and the second (on the 17th) has yet to be determined. (Bristol City have announced that we will, in fact, be playing them.) The session and the friendlies will both be open to the public and free. So if you can get down to Portugal, you can scratch the football itch in early July.
When Villa return home, they will have a pair of friendlies away from Villa Park in the build-up to the Premier League season. The first, at 3 PM on Saturday July 25, will be the now-traditional tilt with Walsall. The second will be a classic midlands derby against Wolves at Molineux on Tuesday July 28. That will kick off at 7:45 PM.
It wouldn't be shocking to see another match or two added to the calendar, but that's the bulk of the preseason right there. Doesn't seem to enticing right now, but by July we'll all be begging club football to return.
June 10 Update: Aston Villa have added visits to Nottingham Forest and Swindon Town to the schedule.
