Sherwood lines up £15 million Benteke replacement

If Christian Benteke leaves Villa Park this summer, Tim Sherwood will have significant funds to line up a replacement. His pick of the bunch appears to be 15 million pound QPR striker Charlie Austin.

With Tim Sherwood's first season at the helm of Aston Villa reaching its end, his first transfer window rapidly approaches. The subject of any villa rumor has been Christian Benteke - 25 million to Wolfsburg, 30 million to Liverpool with double his wages, or 35 million with Manchester United. If Villa fails to qualify for the Europa League with an FA Cup victory, it appears the big Belgian is most likely on his way out. He has been Villa's most influential player of late, and lining up a capable replacement is vital, and it appears Sherwood has found his man.

Despite QPR's abysmal season, Charlie Austin has been the lone bright spot. Amid a team of poor character, aging stars, and no team spirit, Austin has distinguished himself both with his performances and his demeanor. He is the type of get-the-job-done Englishman that Sherwood seems to have an undying affection for, so it's no surprise he has been at the center of Sherwood's summer plans.

The Daily Star is reporting that Sherwood is preparing a 15 million pound bid for the striker, funds that would become available following a blockbuster sale of Christian Benteke.

Austin has been extremely effective this season - scoring 17 goals from his 34 Premier League appearances while contributing 5 assists as well. His impressive record is even more impressive seeing as he comes from a team where creators are very scarce, with Austin being involved in over half of his teams goals.

Danny Ings is the other prolific English striker getting relegated, but he seems to have his pick of the top-6 teams suiting him, so it is unlikely we will see him in claret and blue next year.
