International recap: Christian Benteke vs. Israel

The Aston Villa striker didn't score today in Euro qualifying.

Christian Benteke started for Belgium in their UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match against Israel today. He was subbed off 67 minutes into the match, due to Vincent Kompany picking up a second yellow card and Belgium manager Marc Wilmots needing to bring on another defender.

Benteke didn't have his best match in a Red Devils shirt, but he wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. He came close to recording an assist three minutes in, when his pass to Axel Witsel allowed the Zenit man to shoot, but the effort went just inches wide.

The striker was important in the defensive aspect of the match, making a couple of headed clearances from set pieces. He managed to win a free kick after holding up play following a long ball, but on a couple of occasions his passes were wayward in attempts to link up with the midfield.

Belgium won 1-0, thanks to a Marouane Fellaini goal in the ninth minute.

It's probably good that he didn't go the full 90, as Aston Villa will definitely need him with three matches coming up in a seven day period.
