I put this into the match recap, but I think it's so good that it's worth a post of its very own. Jack Woodward is the radio voice of Aston Villa, and you can hear him by tuning in to AVTV. He's as big of a homer announcer as they come, and sometimes that can make him a touch tough to listen to. There's nothing worse than pervasive positivity in the midst of a seven-match losing streak for instance.
But for his faults, it's pretty readily apparent that Jack either 1) really loves Aston Villa or 2) is paid so damn well that he's able to fake 1. Given how poor Villa play themselves off to be, my money is on 1. And that's what makes him absolutely magical when Aston Villa are winning.
And it paid off in spades today with his call of Christian Benteke's penalty conversion to give Aston Villa the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion. Here, listen and enjoy the goosebumps:
Yeah, I'll be using that to get me through the week. Let's just hope that Saturday's match let's him serenade us with a rendition of "Que sera sera!"
