With any sacking, hiring or firing in the world of football comes almost a complete change of regime. Gerard had McAllister, Lambert had Karsa, Culverhouse, Keane and Marshall; and Tim Sherwood will have his own bunch.
So it's no surprise that Scott Marshall, Villa's caretaker manager in the recent game against Leicester City, has left the club to further his career elsewhere. It's best for both parties as high-ranking coaching staff were likely to get culled anyway so that Sherwood can bring in the staff he needs to get the results he wants.
"I'd like to thank Scott for his efforts during his time at the football club and especially under difficult circumstances at the weekend when he took the team for Sunday's FA Cup victory over Leicester City. We wish him all the best in the future." - Villa CEO Tom Fox speaking to the official Aston Villa website.
Even though Marshall's biggest achievement at Villa will likely be contributed to Tim Sherwood, it's never nice to see someone who has helped the club leave. Here's hoping for a decent replacement as the early days of Tim Sherwood's reign take their first casualty.
