Aston Villa cannot recall Darren Bent from Derby County

Paul Lambert might be gone at B6 but that doesn't mean Villa can recall striker Darren Bent.

Paul Lambert has gone! Rejoice!

Naturally, thoughts that Darren Bent — on loan at Derby County and a man Lambert didn't have a great relationship with to say the least — could be recalled by Aston Villa popped up which, all things considered, were fair. Bent has scored four times in five matches for Derby and actually recorded an assist (!!!) yesterday in their draw against Bournemouth.

If you're someone that thinks Bent could do a good job for Villa to get the goals, well, I've got bad news for you…

Steve Nicholson of the Derby Telegraph has indicated that it doesn't matter — Bent can't be recalled.

If you think about it, it probably makes sense. Derby were never going to be inclined to bring in a player that could've been recalled in the midst of a promotion push and at the time, Paul Lambert's position wasn't anywhere near as untenable as it ultimately ended up.

But, still, it's frustrating watching a player you sent out on loan bang goals in when you can't do so yourself.

Regardless, it's a moot point. It doesn't look like Villa can bring back their record signing and that should be that.
