The draw for the third round of the FA Cup has been made tonight, and Aston Villa will face Wycombe Wanderers away from home.

Wycombe are currently in 9th place in League Two, and have so far knocked Halifax Town and Millwall out of the cup. The game will take place between the 8-11th of January, sandwiched between the two must win fixtures against Sunderland and Crystal Palace.

Villa actually played Wycombe in a pre-season friendly two seasons ago, drawing 2-2. Notably, Paul Lambert has managed both sides, and Janoi Donacien spent a month there on loan earlier this season. Neither of those facts particularly add any spice to the fixture, but in a tie with so little glamour, there probably isn't any spice to be found. Villa however, should reasonably win this one.

Villa of course reached the final last season; beating Blackpool, Bournemouth, Leicester City, West Brom and Liverpool before losing to Arsenal at Wembley. Of course, this season, Premier League survival is the priority, but a morale boosting win over Wycombe wouldn't go amiss. And hey, at least Villa avoided an all Premier League tie.
