The Capital One Cup (or League Cup, if you prefer) constantly struggles for legitimacy. It's the less-loved of the two major cup competitions in England, and most Premier League teams view it as largely a waste of time. Sure, the winner gets qualification to the Europa League and a trophy (which is cool! Just ask Birmingham City fans if they'd give up their 2011 Cup), but it just doesn't have the cachet of the FA Cup.
And yet, struggling to gain relevancy, the Capital One Cup continues to have some of the very worst media coverage of any sporting event I can think of. Their website is an absolute disaster (good luck finding out when the draw for future rounds will be) and their television coverage is basically nonexistent. There are, of course, one or two matches each round that make it to the TV, but most go by with little notice.
Maybe there isn't enough clout to get more matches televised, and I can understand that. But then just let clubs do it themselves. Aston Villa showed in the preseason that they can get adequate visual coverage of a match through AVTV. But we can't watch this match to save ourselves today.
Although that may not be entirely true. Someone on twitter told me that BeIN sport was streaming this, and LiveSoccerTV tells me that if I'm in Africa I can watch on SuperSport 6 Africa and if I'm in the Netherlands I can tune in on Sport1 Voetball. But I can't find confirmation of the BeIN on that channel's website, so who knows.
That means that AVTV and social media are going to be your best options to follow along. Might I humbly suggest following us on twitter, as we'll be endeavoring to update throughout the match. We can be found @7500toHolte. Anyhow, here's the other info we've got for you. If Villa win and no one can watch, does it put an end to our losing streak? Find out today!
