Eleven goals. The number of goals Aston Villa have scored through 20 league matches. Looking at that figure, you may jump to the conclusion that the attack needs the most help. However, it might not be the best place to spend in order to increase production.
It's no secret that manager Paul Lambert has a limited budget. Spending money to get an additional attacker would probably help, but an attack minded player in a different area of the pitch -- Leandro Bacuna or Matt Lowton at right back for example -- may be just as useful.
Honestly, we don't know how much money the Villa board is willing to spend, so lets just assume that only one player can be purchased in January. It seems reasonable, especially if no players are sold. So, if you could bring in a player, what area of the team would it be in? Vote in the poll below!
Ashley Westwood is now back, and Carlos Sánchez has been playing very well. Therefore, defensive midfield isn't an option to vote upon. Neither is goalkeeper, because upgrading Brad Guzan would cost a fortune, and we are already paying one to Shay Given.
