A few days after Paul Lambert confirmed he wouldn't be doing anything drastic in the transfer market this January, rumours are flying that he might be raiding Manchester City for a winger.
Ok, more precisely the Manchester City back cupboards. The long-suffering Scott Sinclair is reported in the Daily Mail to be favouring a loan move to Villa Park. A somewhat garbled report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio is more emphatic, suggesting talks are in the ‘advanced stages'.
The 25 year old winger signed for Man City in 2012 after some impressive performances in Swansea's promotion-winning team and their first season in the Premier League. He then promptly disappeared, playing less than 190 minutes of football for the club.
A subsequent loan to West Bromwich Albion last season came to very little, with Sinclair never getting a sustained run-out in the first-team. Since then rumours have linked him with QPR, Crystal Palace and Norwich City - and now Aston Villa.
So it's not quite like we're being offered James Milner back but hey, any winger is a winger right? And Sinclair is still relatively young and probably eager to get back on the pitch.
This is of course the start of silly season and 95% of rumours are nothing more than that. The best takeaway might be that at least Villa appear to be looking for reinforcements in the wide areas where we so desperately need some guile and service for Benteke.
In the meantime I'll leave you with a video of what Sinclair was a long time ago, with the disclaimer that it may have absolutely no relation to current realities...
Think Sinclair would be a good fit at Villa? Let us know in the comments!
