Coming into the weekend, it didn't look like Aston Villa would have much of a shot at this year's FA Cup. In the past, manager Paul Lambert has stated how the cup is a distraction and that the league is the priority. The opponent for the fourth round was championship table-toppers AFC Bournemouth, a formidable opponent.
However, after the string of shock results on Saturday, the field kind of opened up. With Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Chelsea all being eliminated, it's fortunate that Villa were able to progress after a 2-1 victory yesterday over Bournemouth.
Now, they will play Leicester City at home in the fifth round of the FA Cup. These matches are scheduled to take place on either the 14 or 15 of February. Just sixteen teams remain in the field, and it could be a legitimate chance for Lambert to win a trophy with Villa.
