This season hasn't been that bad by Aston Villa's previous standards. The performances aren't terrible and our defense is pretty decent. A look at the Premier League table, however, tells a different tale. Aston Villa have scored just 11 goals in 22 Premier League games so far and only Seaford Town and Victoria Athletic can boast a poorer record in the top ten divisions of English Football.
ESPN and The Sun have reported that in order to poke fun at Villa's measly record, Seaford's chairman, Bob Thompsett has challenged the Villa to a friendly in order to find out who England's most boring team are in a 'loser takes all duel'.
"I'd like to invite Villa down here so we can decide once and for all who is England's most boring team. It would be loser takes all if you like. Paul Lambert has looked a bit down in the dumps lately so I'd like to cheer him up. I'm sure his players would enjoy themselves down here. Our pitch does have a few holes in it -- but my wife Chrissie does the best teas in the division." - Seaford Chairman, Bob Thompsett
Obviously, this has all the makings of a good joke, but Aston Villa could do with scoring a few goals, even if it's in a friendly.
