Villa finalize deal for Spanish midfielder just in time for Liverpool clash

Aston Villa have officially confirmed what many of us already were taking for granted: they have finished the transfer of young Spanish winger Carles Gil from Valencia.

It's the first move of much consequence that Villa have made in the January transfer window, but if reports are to be believed it may not be the last. Apparently Paul Lambert and company are still looking at Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair, and there is the ever-present rumour of Fabian Delph leaving.

But those are neither here nor there. For now we can look forward to seeing what a young, creative midfielder who can play centrally and on the wings can do. If reports from the BBC are to be believed Gil may actually start against Liverpool this weekend. If you'd like to read a bit more about Gil, Adam did a great in-depth profile on him earlier today that's absolutely worth your time.

In the meantime: are you happy with the signing? Let us know in the comments!
