On loan Aston Villa midfielder Aleksandar Tonev has been charged with racially abusing Aberdeen defender Shay Logan in a Scottish Premiership match.
Tonev, who is on loan at Celtic, faces charges of "excessive misconduct by the use of offensive, insulting and abusive language of a racist nature". Tonev has until September 26th to answer the Scottish FA's charges and has been called to a hearing on October 9th. The Bulgarian is on a season-long loan at Celtic after arriving at Villa from Lech Poznan in the summer of 2013.
I can't say that I saw the Celtic-Aberdeen match and have no idea of the legitimacy of these charges. But if these allegations are remotely true, then I think I speak for most Villa fans when I say that he should not play for Villa again. And yes, that's easier to say about someone who might not have a future at the club anyway. But, if he's found guilty, then there's no room at the club for someone who does that.
