Villa draw League 1 heavyweights in Capital One Cup

The terrifying man in your picture is Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade, who detests extra-time.

Budget and shambolic - Sky presenters somehow managed to misdraw a ball and stood in silence for 10 seconds wondering what on earth to do next. Some might say that would make it a draw worthy of the League Cup, but not us Villa fans. Oh no. This is probably our only realistic chance of silverware for the next several years. So we have to take an interest.

We've made a habit of being dumped out of the cups by lower league opposition, so Paul Lambert will want to tread very carefully when Leyton Orient come to town in the week commencing Monday August 25 (a little vague at this stage). League 1 Orient, who needed penalties to see off League 2 Plymouth last night, narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship last season after finishing 3rd.

Reasons to be interested in Leyton Orient? Our academy graduate Shane Lowry recently signed for them. Also their manager just called for an end to League Cup extra-time. Nobody wants extra-time on a Tuesday, he rightly claimed. I mean who needs it? And that's about the most interesting back story I can currently find.

Hopefully Villa will be able to rest a few players and still progress with relative ease. Or we'll make a complete hash of it. It could go either way. But wouldn't it be nice to win a trophy? They're all shiny and you can stick them in a cabinet! Ours is certainly accumulating some dust.
