Rumours of this one have been coming for a while. Helenius was clearly not trusted by Lambert for whatever reason and his agent has been talking up a potential return to Denmark. It was confirmed today by the official site.
It seemed like Villa had more strikers than they know what to do with, but now it leaves us a little thin (not that Helenius played last season when we needed him). Benteke and Kozak are both injured for the start of the season. Bowery has been sold and Bent is probably set to follow at the earliest opportunity, given this is Villa's last chance to reclaim any money for him. Weimann and Agbonlahor had a very poor scoring season in 2013-14, but they were never prolific in the first place. So much so that Grant Holt (oh god, I almost forgot) was brought in to bolster our options. Not a great surprise then that Villa have been linked with the free transfer of Nicklas Bendtner. Another Dane, more experienced than Helenius, his reputation isn't the best but he could certainly help us.
Helenius seemed a promising signing around this time last summer, but it really hasn't worked out. Let's hope he can impress for Aalborg and either come back to Villa for round 2, or we can reclaim the money we paid for him.
