Last week we heard rumours that Aston Villa were interested in bringing Chelsea winger Christian Atsu in on a season-long loan. Well, we get to start the new week with rumblings of a Chelsea winger again, but this time the name is different. According to a report in the Telegraph, Paul Lambert is angling to get Victor Moses to Villa Park for the season on a loan. Moses spent last season with Liverpool, where he failed to impress after a strong 2012-13 campaign with Chelsea.
Despite his poor season at Anfield, Moses-to-Villa is a move that could make sense for both sides. From Chelsea's perspective, they know that the Nigerian international would be given regular playing time on a Villa squad that could desperately use some help on the wings. For Villa, Moses is another player who would be (barring wages) essentially free and brings some Premier League experience with him.
According to the report, Everton, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, and West Ham are all also chasing Moses. This rumour does represent a step down from Christian Atsu, but Moses could certainly help Villa. It's very much in the spirit of this summer's other signings: nothing amazing, but smart with little risk. Villa could certainly do worse.
