QPR looking at non-Vlaar options, everyone breathe again

QPR, who were rumoured to be interested in Aston Villa's Ron Vlaar, appear to have been enticed by other central defenders instead. Phew!

A couple of days ago we heard that newly-promoted QPR were looking at possibly making a swoop for Aston Villa's captain Ron Vlaar. It didn't seem like it would be a smart move for Vlaar, but people have done far more stupid things for money. If you were worried at all, though, it seems as if you can breathe a bit easier now. Apparently QPR are interested in getting Cardiff's Steven Caulker instead of Vlaar.

It makes a bit more sense, to be honest. Caulker has a clause in his contract that lets him out of the Bluebirds since they've been relegated, and he's only 23 years old. Vlaar isn't exactly ancient, but he's much older and would be significantly more expensive for QPR to acquire.

This, of course, doesn't mean that the danger of seeing Vlaar swept away is over. He's been playing wonderfully in the World Cup, and will certainly be drawing attention from plenty of other clubs, especially since he only has one year left on his contract.
