Incredibly tough autumn: Aston Villa fixture list 2014-15

The official fixture list for the 2014-15 Premier League has been released. September to November will not be enjoyable.

Mark Thompson

Aston Villa will play their first game against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on August 16th. On first glance? We don't have the most difficult first 3 games and our last 3 games aren't that bad either. It's the bit in the middle that could be tricky. The fixture computer has again grouped all our hardest games into daunting clusters.

Potential nightmares

  • We play 6 of last season's top 7 in the space of 7 games between 13th September and 1st November, with only a trip to QPR to numb the pain. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City and Everton all in a row. Awesome. Likely without Benteke. That could get ugly.
  • January 17th to February 7th we play Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in a row. AGAIN!
  • From 4th April to 2nd May we play 4 out of 5 games against last season's top 7, again QPR the only respite from Man United, Spurs, Man City and Everton (3 of them away from home).

When can we pick up points?

  • We must get off to a good start to avoid a very sticky situation by November.
  • From the start of November to the middle of January we have an opportunity to climb the table with a relatively comfortable festive fixture list.
  • A 6 game run from February to April against lower and mid table teams could give us a bit of momentum.
  • If we're in serious trouble towards the end of the season, our final two home games against West Ham and Burnley could provide a path to safety.

Derby Games

  • We face West Brom away on 13th December and at home on 3rd March.
  • The other Midlands sides we face are Stoke and Leicester. We face Stoke away on 16th August and home on 21st February. Leicester come to Villa Park on 6th December, we play them away on 10th January.
