Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne is now the latest name to be linked to a move to Aston Villa this summer. Scouts from Villa were reportedly seen checking out the Club Brugge winger at their fixture last Sunday against Anderlecht. Lestienne is rumoured to be available for £8 million. The 21-year old has scored 28 goals and has recorded 31 assists over the past two seasons in all competitions.
I haven't seen Lestienne play and have not a clue about his quality. However, those numbers suggest that he might be a pretty good player. And Villa have a good track record with bringing in young Juplier League players. Christian Benteke was able to make that jump and make an immediate impact. While it would be a bit much to set our expectations that high, we at least have one piece of evidence that a player can make that transition from Belgium to the Premier League. There's also the fact that he also plays a position that Villa could really use some help at.
As with most transfer rumours, you should probably be somewhat skeptical until the player is holding a Villa shirt on the club website, but Lestienne being a target wouldn't shock me, nor would I be disappointed with that signing.
