2014 World Cup: Ron Vlaar named to Netherlands 23-man roster

Louis van Gaal has named his 23-man squad for the World Cup, and Aston Villa's Ron Vlaar made the final cut.

Ron Vlaar has become the second Villan to secure himself a trip to Brazil in a little more than a week, as he was named to the Netherland's final 23-man squad. Louis van Gaal included Vlaar in the squad along with other Premier League players Tim Krul, Michel Vorm, Jonathan de Guzman, Leroy Fer, and Robin van Persie.

Unlike Brad Guzan, who is going on the United States as a backup, Vlaar has a strong chance of seeing regular playing time during the World Cup. While van Gaal's side generally play four at the back, the injury of midfielder Kevin Strootman has led to speculation that the Dutch could use five defenders, which would almost guarantee Vlaar regular starting minutes. The Netherlands open play with a tough test against Spain, but after that they face winnable matches against Australia and Chile, and should likely advance to the Round of 16.

You can try to find a stream and watch Vlaar tonight as the Netherlands take on Ghana in a tune-up at 19:30 BST.
