Giant striker to leave Aston Villa

Nicklas Helenius looks to be packing his bags after just one season at Villa Park. The young Danish international made just six appearances in a frustrating debut season in England.

Lambert’s decision to regularly leave Helenius out of the first team squad has given the Villa fans yet another stick to beat him with. It now looks as though Helenius will never get the chance to prove what he is capable of for Aston Villa. Helenius didn’t make a single premier league start this season and his agent Mads Bach Lund tweeted today to confirm that he was out of Villa’s plans. Lund also mentioned that despite the lack of action, Helenius feels he has learned from the experience and improved as a player.

This news will come as a disappointment to many. Obviously we don’t know what went on behind closed doors but it is still difficult to see why Helenius was never given a chance whilst Benteke and Kozak suffered from long term injuries. Holt, Bowery and Robinson were all selected ahead of the Danish international prompting many to speculate Lambert and Helenius had fallen out. Perhaps we will never know more that Lund’s vague admission that there were ‘many reasons behind this’.

Striker may have been the last position that Villa fans were concerned about this summer. However, with Benteke and Kozak yet to return from injury, Bent likely to be sold, Holt returning to Wigan, Delfouneso and Robinson out of contract, options could be thin for pre-season.
