Ellis: Aston Villa have already been sold

After an entire day of speculation about how long it will take to sell Aston Villa, we may already have an answer. Phil Williams, a presenter on BBC radio, just tweeted this:

Just spoken to Doug Ellis. He told me he's heard a deal's been done for Villa with an American. Hear it at 23.15 on @bbc5live

There's no indication that we will get official word of a sale any time soon, but Ellis still has plenty of connections with the club (and with Randy Lerner, who he praised in comments today reaffirming his sale of the club to the American).

Apparently Ellis had a bit more to say about the club, too:

Doug Ellis also told me the team is in a worse state on the pitch than when he left it and needs £100million spending on players.

We will, of course keep monitoring this for you. It would be hard to believe that we get a statement in the next day or so, given the phrasing of today's statement, but at this point it would be great news.
