Aston Villa today released a brief statement about Chris Herd that raises more questions than it answers. In full, the statement reads:
"The club can confirm that due to personal reasons Chris Herd will be unavailable for selection until further notice. There will be no further comment and we request that Chris's privacy be respected."
It's a blow for Herd, who just received a call-up from Australia to make his international debut against Ecuador on Wednesday. But, we can rule out "personal reasons" being a spat between Herd and manager Paul Lambert, as the midfielder has also been ruled out of selection by the Australian manager Ange Postecoglou as well:
"We have been made aware that Chris will be unavailable for selection at club level until further notice as he works through some personal issues and we will respect that and have replaced him in the squad for the Ecuador game."
We'll keep an eye on this and let you know if anything else develops. Hopefully Herd is doing alright and we'll see him back on the pitch before too long.
