It's off to Sheffield Wednesday for Aston Villa midfielder Gary Garnder, who's set to join up with former assistant manager Stuart Gray, boss of the Owls. It's characterized as an "emergency loan", meaning that Wednesday must be missing some midfielders, or something of that sort. They've got a date with Charlton Athletic in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, followed by a league match against fourth-place side Derby, so any help would benefit, it seems.
While it's a bit difficult to love the decision to have a midfielder, of all things, head away from Aston Villa, it should be good for Gards to get some time in the Championship. The 21-year-old has struggled with injury - first an ACL tear, then niggling back issues this season - and needs both time on the pitch and to gain some confidence once more.
There's few Villa supporters who don't want to see Gardner in the claret-and-blue kit, and soon, so let's hope that this loan gives him a chance to shine.
