Manchester United injury report full of good news for Aston Villa

Manchester United will be without Marouane Fellaini and Luke Shaw on Saturday, and it remains to be seen if Angel Di Maria will make the trip to Villa Park. Everyone is running with the news about Di Maria as their lede, but to me the nice surprise is Fellaini. I couldn't be happier to see that guy missing this match. In my gut, I just instinctively feel as if Fellaini terrorizes Villa, but I wanted to see if there was any truth to that.

Last year, he only played against Villa once and committed three fouls during United's 4-1 win at Old Trafford. But in 2012-13 he found the back of the net three times. Once is a 1-3 win over Villa with Everton and twice in the 3-3 draw at Goodison Park. He also scored once against Villa in October 2008, his first season with Everton. So four goals in five seasons. Perhaps terrorize wasn't the word I should have used for Fellaini, but he certainly has been a menace. It'll be nice to not have to worry about his puff of hair.

Angel Di Maria, who has missed three matches with a bad hamstring, may also be out. Louis van Gaal hasn't made a decision yet, but it seems that at the very least we'll only see the Argentine on the bench. And Villa fans will likely get the chance to boo or cheer former hero Ashley Young as he looks set to continue his cameo in the left back spot while Luke Shaw is out.

None of these injuries spell doom for United, but it's comforting to know that van Gaal's side won't be at its absolute peak. You've got to find the silver lining somewhere.
