Villa boss Paul Lambert has stated that centre back Ron Vlaar and midfielder Fabian Delph could possibly be in the team to face West Bromwich Albion in the Midlands derby this weekend.
Fabian is returning rather quickly from a shoulder injury that has kept him out of contention for the past couple of months. Delph should slot right into a Villa team whose midfielders are in form. Delph can be expected to line up with Tom Cleverley and Carlos Sánchez in the absence of Ashley Westwood, who is out for a month with a twisted knee sustained against Leicester City.
The more interesting story for Villa is of Ron Vlaar's status in the team. The start of the season heralded big things for Vlaar, who had a massive world cup campaign, but with the emergence of Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark in the last few games, it seems that Vlaar may not have an instant place in Villa's defence anymore.
Depth, however is very good. An injury to Okore or Clark sees Vlaar back into the team and vice versa. Our defence looks solid, for now.
