Today, Aston Villa hosted Manchester City in a game that featured the return of Christian Benteke from his injury hiatus. The visiting Citizens were big favourites to win, but for most of the game, Villa defended well enough to have deserved a point.
The Belgian striker didn't start, but he was subbed on after 60 minutes with the match still scoreless. Paul Lambert made a couple more attacking subs about ten minutes later. Leandro Bacuna was subbed on for Charles N'Zogbia, and Jack Grealish came on for Kieran Richardson with 20 minutes left.
Overall, it was a pretty good performance. Villa held City to zero shots on target in the first half, and Brad Guzan was a standout in the second half, making many good saves. The post also denied Sergio Agüero, keeping it level.
Yaya Toure got a goal eight minutes from time, and it was a product of the team defending deep. Sergio Agüero made it 2-0 with two minutes left, and it was over. It was still a very good performance against a top team.
