Villa defense takes another knock

Center back Philippe Senderos picked up an injury while on duty with Switzerland, although the extent of the damage is still unknown.

Ron Vlaar is on his way back from injury, but that doesn't mean that the Aston Villa defense is set to return to full strength, to those halcyon days earlier this season when just one goal was conceded. No, it seems Philippe Senderos has picked up an injury that may keep him out of the squad for a bit.

The center back limped off in the 70th minute of Switzerland's eventual defeat to Slovenia, a defeat that came courtesy of a penalty conceded by Johan Djourou nine minutes later. Now, the Swiss national team doctor has implied that Senderos will be out for a few weeks:

Philippe has a thigh muscle strain. We'll have to see how it reacts. Normally a player is out of action for some time with a muscle injury of this type.

Keep in mind that this news comes via the Daily Star. When reading Swiss reports, there's never a mention of a time period, just that they will reevaluate the defender's injury and he's almost certainly not going to play on Tuesday. Still, if Senderos has in fact re-injured himself, it's quite likely he won't be playing for Villa for a bit.

Yay.
