Transfer Deadline Day: What to expect from Aston Villa

Watching Sky Sports on Transfer Deadline Day is rarely exciting for Villa fans. Will it be any more interesting this January 31?

Happy Transfer Deadline Day! Are you planning to watch Sky Sports News all day long, staying in your jammies and eating crisps? Or is your employer forcing you to go to work, leaving you reliant on keywords and Twitter? And, the most important question of the day: What do you think Villa are set to do before the window slams shut at 11 p.m. tonight?

Where We Are

Grant Holt: signed on loan from Wigan Athletic to the disgust of many, but he hasn't performed too badly in the two games in which he's made an appearance. He's also exerting influence off the pitch, which seems to be a positive at a club full of youngsters.

Ryan Bertrand: In danger of becoming another Kyle Walker already, with Villa fans being sad when he inevitably goes back to Chelsea. There's no contract clause giving the club an option to buy, but the left back has said he won't rule out a permanent move to Villa. And yeah, we're already excited about that.

What Won't Happen

Joleon Lescott: This rumor is dead in the water once more. Paul Lambert took a sword and chopped off its head. No Lescott. No problem.

Alan Hutton: No, he's not going anywhere. He's just not. He's going to be hanging around Bodymoor until he dies, and then his ghost will haunt the dugout.

Steven Defour: No idea why Lambert squished this one, but he has.

Lewis Holtby: Lambert says no. He says "I haven't heard of that one." Let's hope he just hadn't heard the rumor and is, in fact, aware of the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

What Could Happen

Wes Hoolahan: Yep, Lambert is still in the hunt for Hoolahan, who is desperate to get way from Norwich City, although the Canaries are certainly not inclined to do business with Villa. Hoolahan is a decent stopgap but let's not kid ourselves - he's not the midfielder that we've been hoping for.

Eunan O'Kane: Ok, we've heard nothing about this wee one from Bournemouth since Tuesday, but there's no reason why Villa can't bring the midfielder in.

Random player from League One: most likely one under 22 years old. One whose name has yet to be mentioned in connection to Aston Villa. This is the most likely outcome of Transfer Deadline Day.
